At the golden gates of independence;
Life begins, thrust fast and unforgiving
E'er do I turn away from what I know
Or firmly stand steadfast and unshaken?
To withstand storms and trials of all kinds,
To fall and fall again, and rise once more
To be beaten, grieved, afflicted oft'
To leave home's sweet protection and ease
Why do I fear and why do I question
When life's adventures merely await me;
God has granted me His Grace and knowledge,
Let all my troubles be for mine own good
And may I learn the great lessons of life!
